The aim of the School Improvement Service is to provide schools with a high quality service to support their continued improvement
Education Welfare Service
The Education Welfare Service is primarily responsible for working with schools, parents and children in promoting regular school attendance and helping to reduce exclusion from school
Under their funding agreement with the Department for Education (DfE), academies are required to have in place arrangements for the hearing of appeals of pupils who have been excluded from the school. As for Local Education Authorities, these should operate in accordance with the Education (Pupil Exclusions and Appeals) (Maintained Schools) (England) Regulations 2002 (the Regulations). West Berkshire Council is able to offer a School Exclusion Appeals service for independent schools, operated in line with the Regulations. It defines the objectives of the service, articulates the cost per appeal and provides a description of the activities associated with its provision. It is provided by and is managed by the Policy and Communication Service of West Berkshire Council
